Volunteer Program

TURTLE CONSERVATION

Overview

Sri Lanka is home to some of the world’s most beautiful beaches, where five species of sea turtles come to nest. Unfortunately, these majestic creatures face numerous threats from habitat loss, pollution, and poaching. Our Turtle Conservation Program is dedicated to preserving these endangered species and their natural habitats. Join us in making a meaningful impact on marine conservation while enjoying the breathtaking coastal scenery of Sri Lanka.

About the Program

Our Turtle Conservation Program offers volunteers the unique opportunity to work closely with local conservationists and communities to protect sea turtles. Whether you’re an experienced conservationist or a passionate nature lover, this program welcomes all who wish to contribute to the survival of these incredible animals.

Key Activities

Nesting Site Monitoring
Assist in patrolling the beaches to monitor and protect turtle nesting sites. Help prevent poaching and ensure that eggs are safely relocated to hatcheries when necessary.
Egg Protection and Hatchery Work
Work at our hatcheries to care for and monitor turtle eggs until they hatch. Learn about the incubation process and help increase hatchling survival rates by ensuring they are safely released into the ocean.
Turtle Rehabilitation
Participate in the rehabilitation of injured or sick turtles. Assist local veterinarians and conservationists in nursing these turtles back to health before they are released back into the wild.
Community Education
Engage with local communities and schools to raise awareness about the importance of turtle conservation. Help educate locals about sustainable practices that can protect marine life and reduce threats to turtles.
Beach Clean-ups
Join regular beach clean-up efforts to reduce pollution and create a safer environment for turtles and other marine life. This activity is crucial in maintaining the health of the ecosystems where turtles nest and feed.
